What it is
Smart film is a laminated layer applied to the internal face of your existing glass. Switched off, the liquid crystals inside scatter light and the glass reads as frosted. Switched on, they align and the glass turns clear.
The switch takes well under a second, and the film draws roughly the same power as a low-energy bulb per square metre.
Where it works well
Bathrooms and ensuites, meeting rooms, clinic consultation rooms, and internal partitions where you want daylight through the space but privacy on demand. It also works on external glazing, though for west-facing façades in Riyadh you will usually want it paired with a heat-rejecting layer.
Where it does not
Film is not a heat solution on its own. If the brief is primarily about solar gain and cooling load, fixed tint or a spectrally selective film will do more for less. We will tell you that rather than sell you the wrong product.
Specification and pricing
Pricing is driven by total switchable area, the number of separately switched zones, and how the control is wired: wall switch, app, or integration with an existing building system. We quote against a written specification so the price at handover matches the price at order.
Frequently asked questions
Can smart film be applied to glass that is already installed?
Yes. That is the main reason clients choose film over switchable glass. It is applied to the internal face of your existing glazing, so there is no reglazing and no structural work.
What happens if the power goes out?
The film returns to its frosted state. It fails to private rather than to clear, which is the safer default for bathrooms, clinics and meeting rooms.
How long does installation take?
A standard villa partition is usually done in a day. Larger commercial jobs are staged so the space stays usable.
