What it is
Switchable glass is a laminated unit with the switchable layer sealed between two panes at the factory. Because the layer is protected inside the laminate, optical clarity in the clear state is noticeably better than surface-applied film, and the layer cannot be scratched in service.
When to specify it over film
Specify glass when the glazing is being replaced anyway, when the unit is external and needs to meet a thermal or acoustic spec, or when the clear-state clarity matters enough to justify the lead time. Otherwise film is faster, cheaper and reversible.
Coordination
These units are made to order, so the sizes need to be right first time. We survey before the order goes in and coordinate directly with the glazier or main contractor so the programme does not slip waiting on a resize.

How is this different from smart film?
The switchable layer is laminated inside the glass at the factory rather than applied to the surface on site. Clarity is better and the layer is protected, but it means replacing the glass rather than retrofitting.
What is the lead time?
Units are made to order, so plan for several weeks rather than days. If the programme cannot absorb that, film is the faster route.
