Villa master suite, As Sahafah

The brief

The suite had a frameless glass wall between the bedroom and the ensuite, specified by the architect for the sense of space it gave the room. It worked visually and failed practically: the owners had hung a curtain rail across it within a month of moving in.

What we did

Switchable film applied to the bedroom face of the existing glass, so no reglazing and no change to the frameless detail the architect had wanted.

The wall is a single switched zone, controlled from two places: a plate beside the bathroom door and a second beside the bed. The second control is the one that made the installation work socially rather than just technically.

The detail that mattered

The glass met the floor with no frame, which is exactly the condition that makes a film edge visible. We terminated into a shadow gap at floor level and under the ceiling reveal, so there is no visible film edge from normal viewing positions.

Outcome

The curtain rail came down. The room reads at its full size during the day and the glass goes private in under a second when it needs to.
